Suvendu Govt reduces Bakrid holiday from 2 days to 1

The West Bengal government has revised the public holiday schedule for Id-Ud-Zoha (Bakrid) and declared May 28, 2026, as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The decision was announced after receiving information that Bakrid will be observed on Thursday, May 28, instead of the previously scheduled dates. The revised order partially modifies Notification No. 4188-F(P2) dated November 27, 2025.

According to the new notification, the holidays earlier declared for May 26, 2026, on account of the day before Id-Ud-Zoha and May 27, 2026, on account of Id-Ud-Zoha have been cancelled. The government stated that both May 26 and May 27 will now be treated as working days for all offices, institutions and establishments covered under the earlier notification.

The notification further stated that the Governor has approved the revised holiday declaration following the updated date for the observance of Bakrid. As per the revised order, all applicable government offices, institutions and establishments across the state will remain closed on May 28, 2026, instead of the previously announced dates.
